Dermabrasion for Acne Scars

Dermabrasion for acne scars

The development of acne usually occurs during the teenage life of an individual, but this does not mean that you will end there too.

It can affect people at an early age, may disappear for a while but it may happen again in early adulthood that can become a lifelong problem.

However, there are some people who are lucky just to get injuries, while others continue to suffer with acne scars and disfigurement of the skin.

Acne scars are common, that is why there are a lot of treatments developed to handle this problem, and one of them is dermabrasion.

Dermabrasion is a medical procedure that removes the top layer of the skin, including dead skin cells, excess oil together with other unnecessary accumulations ups.

Since the process can remove impurities, it is expected to achieve healthy looking skin through regular dermabrasion. The procedure works in eliminating accumulation of collagen fibers that cause acne scars.

This is similar to using an excavator that is the ground level, while the procedure is the removal of the top layer of skin.

This procedure is considered to be effective in improving acne scars; however, it cannot be confirmed as a miracle cure. For each treatment, there is 20% improvement in 40% of acne scars.

This means that you have to undergo several treatments to get the desired results. But you should know that there are scars that cannot be removed, even after several sessions.

The procedure is performed in a doctor's clinic or hospital.

Each procedure takes a few minutes to an hour. You need not be admitted or hospitalized since you can go home after the procedure. You may experience some discomfort and facial swelling may last a week.

Some doctors may prescribe pain medication is right for you in the next 3-7 days. After the procedure, you need to clean your face daily for 7 to 10 days, with the application of medication until the skin is completely healed.

However, the procedure also comes with some cost disadvantage primarily because it is a bit expensive for most people plus the fact that you only need several treatments to get the desired results.

Rarely, it can also cause side effects such as ice pick scars, fibrotic scars, hypertrophic scars and keloids. It can also cause irregular pigmentation of the skin of people with darker skin color.
